🔴 Live now: WWDC 2025 keynote
02:31 PM: And that’s a wrap on the WWDC 2025 keynote! I’m gonna grab my spare iPhone and Apple Watch and try to get these betas installed ASAP. Stay tuned to The Shortcut for more coverage on Apple’s big new software updates!
02:30 PM: iOS 26, macOS Tahoe, iPadOS 26, visionOS 26, watchOS 26, and tvOS 26 are all being released as developer previews today. A public beta for each of them will come out next month, and each update will be released to the general public in the fall.
02:27 PM: Apple is continuing to stress how integrated Apple Intelligence is throughout its platforms, and it’s definitely in all of them. However, without any stand-out new features, it’s hard to get excited about AI this year if you’re an Apple user. We’ll have to wait to see what happens with Siri down the line to see whether Apple can truly compete with other AI platforms.
02:25 PM: Here’s iPadOS 26!
02:23 PM: iPadOS 26 also gets support for high-quality mics, improves the quality of the mics on your AirPods, and lets you capture video calls using Local Capture.

02:21 PM: File management is easier and more customizable on iPadOS 26. You can also add folders to the dock on your iPad. Also… holy crap, Preview from the Mac is here, too.
02:20 PM: Apparently, the windowing system is gonna work on every iPad that supports iPadOS 26, which seems insane considering the iPad mini is included on that list.
02:19 PM: A MENU BAR ON IPAD. GOD IS REAL.

02:16 PM: iPadOS 26 gets a brand-new windowing system for multitasking, giving you proper floating window support like on the Mac. The pointer is also more responsive. There’s also new Mac-like close/minimize buttons, tiling support, and more.
02:15 PM: Okay, iPadOS 26 time. The update comes with the new Phones app, the Games app, Liquid Glass, and more.
02:14 PM: visionOS 26 has a ton of new spatial experiences, PlayStation VR2 Sense controller support, protected content support, and more.
02:11 PM: Apple is improving personas in visionOS 26 to look more lifelike. It’s also adding the ability to enjoy content with other visionOS users.

02:07 PM: Apple just announced visionOS 26, and one of its biggest new features is widgets that you can place around your home. The Vision Pro will remember where you left them, too, so when you put the headset on, they’ll be right there.
02:07 PM: Here’s macOS 26 Tahoe!
02:05 PM: Of course, macOS Tahoe also gets the new Games app.
02:05 PM: It seems like Spotlight in macOS Tahoe will be filled with AI, and I’m kinda here for it.
02:00 PM: Spotlight is getting a big upgrade that includes intelligent suggestions, all of your apps on your Mac and iPhone, your files, and more. It’s also turning into an AI chat bot of sorts that lets you send emails, start alarms, and more. You can also use shortcuts and quick keys for quickly doing things like sending messages.

01:58 PM: The Phone app is coming to macOS Tahoe with all the same features that are debuting in iOS 26. macOS Tahoe also gets Live Activities.

01:57 PM: Apple is gonna let you go ham with the look of your Mac in macOS Tahoe. This is super dope.
01:56 PM: macOS Tahoe is official.

01:54 PM: tvOS 26 is a lighter update beyond the new design, but there is one feature I’m super excited for: Apple Music Sing, which lets you sing into your iPhone like a karaoke mic and have your voice come through the TV while you sing along to your favorite songs.

01:51 PM: tvOS 26 also gets Liquid Glass with much sexier controls and iconography.
01:50 PM: Here’s watchOS 26!

01:48 PM: Custom backgrounds in Messages on watchOS 26 is kinda cool - so is the inclusion of the Notes app.
01:48 PM: You can now flick your wrist to dismiss notifications in watchOS 26 and, honestly, this seems life-changing.

01:47 PM: Smart Stack is getting smarter in watchOS 26 to help make it more proactive based on where you are, what you’re doing, and more.

01:46 PM: The Workout app is getting a new layout to make it easier to find specific features, and to control your jams.
01:44 PM: watchOS 26 gets a new AI-powered coach called Workout Buddy that can give you a pep in your step and help you catch up on your stats, host music, and more.
01:43 PM: Wow, watchOS 26 looks really good, too.

01:42 PM: Okay people, here’s iOS 26.

01:40 PM: Visual Intelligence is being updated to support content that’s on your screen. It’s very similar to Google’s Circle to Search in that you can use AI to find things like clothing, accessories, and more by identifying them. It also supports extracting text and creating events from information that appears on your screen.

01:36 PM: Apple has introduced the new Games app, a replacement for Game Center. It’ll show you your stats in specific games, the latest games in Apple Arcade, games available in the App Store, and a list of all the games you’ve ever downloaded. You can also see what your friends are playing and how they’re ranking, and compete with them in Challenges.
01:35 PM: Apple is adding the ability to create a digital ID that’s stored in Apple Wallet sourced from your passport. It can be used for domestic travel, apparently, which means you might not need a Real ID. I’ll have to dig into this more.

01:33 PM: Apple Maps is getting updated with the ability to remember places you’ve visited, offer faster routes to common destinations, and more.

01:31 PM: Apple Music is getting updated with lyric translations, lyric pronunciations, AutoMix for clean blending between songs (like a DJ), and the ability to pin your favorite artists and albums.
01:31 PM: Here’s a better look at the new icons in iOS 26.

01:28 PM: Live translation extends across the system and allows you to communicate with others in different languages.

01:27 PM: Oh god, you can combine emojis with AI. What fun.

01:25 PM: Apple is updating Messages with polls, typing indicators for group chats, custom backgrounds for your conversations, and more.
01:24 PM: Apple is bringing call screening and automatic holding to iOS 26 for phone calls, two features I assume are powered by AI and are clear shots at the Google Pixel, which has had these features for years.
01:23 PM: Apple also redesigned the Phone app in iOS 26. A lot of redesigning is happening.

01:22 PM: The new icons in iOS 26 look nice, but I can’t tell if I actually like them more than iOS 18.

01:20 PM: CarPlay gets the same Liquid Glass treatment as well. New widgets and more compact UI elements everywhere.

01:19 PM: FaceTime and Safari also get redesigns.

01:17 PM: Brand new Camera app in iOS 26. Looks like Apple just wanted to clean it up and hide certain features behind swipes/taps, and it makes sense.
01:16 PM: Yeah, this looks fire.
01:15 PM: Whoa, lock screens look kinda insane in iOS 26. Also… clear notifications??

01:14 PM: New icons with different styles.

01:14 PM: New version numbers confirmed!
01:13 PM: The new design looks really good, honestly.
01:11 PM: Apple’s new Liquid Glass redesign is official! Herre’s your first look.

01:08 PM: iOS redesign incoming!
01:07 PM: Apple announced a new framework that allows developers to tap right into the same Apple Intelligence models the system uses.
01:06 PM: Apple sounds like it’s trying to justify Apple Intelligence and all the features that have come out so far. Craig Federighi just confirmed Apple will have more to say about AI in Siri in the next year.
01:05 PM: Apple has decided to start with Apple Intelligence. I do not know why.
01:04 PM: Oh boy…

01:03 PM: Tim Cook just entered the chat to intro WWDC.
01:02 PM: THE HAIR.

01:01 PM: Another entertaining intro to WWDC. Apple has way too much fun with these things.
12:59 PM: It’s starting…
12:58 PM: Second cold brew is here. Let’s get this party started. 🎉
12:53 PM: This is definitely the most excited I’ve been for WWDC in years.
12:36 PM: Apple’s big redesign across its operating systems will be one of the largest (if not the largest) in the company’s history. I’m curious to see how it all blends together.
12:19 PM: If it’s called iOS 19, we’re definitely suing Apple, right? (Kidding, obviously… I think…)
12:14 PM: The coffee will be endlessly flowing through my system today, mind you. Gotta keep sharp since we’re expecting so many announcements this afternoon.
12:13 PM: I’m officially settled at my desk after flying home from Nashville early this morning. Let’s do this thing.
🔴 Live updates will be posted here. Stay tuned!
One of the biggest days in Apple’s history is upon us. WWDC 2025 kicks off today at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT with the company’s opening keynote, where we expect to hear a flurry of announcements from upgrades to Apple’s software to new developer tools.
Obviously, the thing we’re all most excited to see is iOS 26. Apple’s successor to iOS 18 is expected to adopt a new naming scheme that follows years instead of version numbers, as well as get a complete redesign that resembles what visionOS looks like on the Apple Vision Pro. The rest of Apple’s software upgrades are expected to follow suit, including watchOS 26, iPadOS 26, tvOS 26, and more. macOS 26 will also get the two big changes, and rumor has it it’ll be named after Lake Tahoe to boot.
Apple is also expected to talk about AI at some point, although we won’t be hearing “Apple Intelligence” as often as last year. Due to internal issues developing its AI tools, Apple will use 2025 as a sort of gap year to work on it more. We don’t expect the whole show to be absent of AI, but it won’t be the focal point.
I’m sitting at my desk in New York City, sipping refreshing cold brew, ready to cover all of Apple’s announcements in The Shortcut’s official WWDC 2025 live blog. Stay tuned to this page for live updates during the show, and remember to share it with your friends when it kicks off this afternoon.
